Terry Childers is getting old. In view of his qualities as a soldier, he left for Yemen. His mission: to evacuate the American embassy besieged by rioters. After having suffered the loss of three soldiers, he is obliged to fire into the crowd.

The operation being a publicized fiasco, Terry Childers is court-martialed. He calls on an old friend whose life he saved in Vietnam, Colonel Hayes Hodges.
